FRESH AND ORGANIC FOODS
The word
"organic" refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural
products, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat.
·
Healthy
living conditions and access to the outdoors
·
Pasture
feeding for at least 30 percent of livestock's nutritional needs during grazing
season
·
Organically
grown crops have more Antioxidants and Vitamins
·
Nitrate
levels are generally Lower.
Food
production methods are not always easy to classify. This complexity stems from
not only the number and varying forms of conventional and organic agricultural
systems but also resulting from the overlap of these systems.
Some organic
farming practices, like crop rotation and the use of cover crops,
additional plants that can help control erosion and pests, help keep nitrous
oxide emissions in check. That’s because they promote healthy soil, and healthy
soil releases less nitrous oxide.
With the exception of potatoes, every
fruit and vegetable on this list is grown above ground. Above-ground plants are
more susceptible to direct application of sprayed pesticides.
